Report: Bradford 1-1 Town

29 December 2013

TOWN earned a 1-1 draw with a battling display at Bradford City.

Alex Pritchard sealed a point for the visitors with a superbly-taken solo effort after Swindon had fallen behind to a first-half goal.

Town’s early chance came courtesy of Alex Pritchard, who fizzed an effort over the crossbar from 12 yards.

Nathan Byrne almost reached Pritchard’s cross from the right before Darren Ward swung a boot at the resultant corner and diverted it wide.

With  17 minutes gone, the home side took the lead when Rory McArdle leapt highest from a corner and glanced a header goalwards that ricocheted off the underside of the crossbar before crossing the line.

Looking for a route back into the match, Town continued to create chances. Firstly, Nathan Byrne arrived to meet Pritchard’s cross deep at the far post but could only head wide into the side netting. Then Grant Hall rose to meet Jay McEveley’s cross but headed wide.

Before the first half was over, Pritchard curled a free-kick wide of goal.

After the break, Foderingham reacted well to keep out James Hanson’s bullet header while at the other end, Pritchard drilled wide.

It was Pritchard who hauled Swindon level single-handedly with a little over half an hour to play. Picking the ball up in a deep position, he set off on a marauding run towards the Bradford goal that saw him cut in off the right flank before planting the ball left-footed beyond McLaughlin and into the net.

As the game opened out, half-chances fell for both teams but Town’s best chances to win the game came in injury time, both to substitute Miles Storey.

Firstly, Luongo set him free wide on the right. With the ball running away from him, he stretched out a boot and sent an effort goalwards that was pushed away by McLaughlin. Then, with the final kick off the game, a half-chance dropped to him in the box but his left-foot volley skewed high and wide of goal.
