SWINDON Town Football Club have this evening appointed former Liverpool Double-winner Kevin MacDonald as their new manager.
MacDonald will meet the Town squad first thing on Friday morning and will be naming his own backroom staff shortly.
The 52-year old’s most recent football post was with Premier League side Aston Villa where he served for 17 years as a coach. He had a spell in charge as caretaker after Martin O’Neill left the club before the start of the 2010/11 season and then served as first-team coach last season under Alex McLeish.
He takes over Town with the Club in fourth place in the table, three points behind leaders Doncaster Rovers and firmly in the play-off positions with 12 games of the season remaining.

“Kevin has fantastic football credentials as a Double-winner with Liverpool during his playing days and he is an excellent coach.
“He has great connections with top players and he is a proper football man. We have every faith for Kevin now to lead Swindon from the front at a pivotal moment in the campaign. It is a new start for Kevin and for our new Board of Directors and we move forward together with every confidence.”
MacDonald had a successful playing career as a midfielder, first rising to prominence at Leicester before joining Liverpool in 1984 and playing a significant role in player-manager Kenny Dalglish’s 1986 Double-winning side.
