Roberts - A Great Away Win

6 February 2013

GARY Roberts says that Town showed great character to grind out an away victory at Colchester on Tuesday night.

In difficult conditions in Essex, James Collins scored the winning goal eight minutes into the second half and Roberts believes that the three points were crucial.

“It was a rough pitch again but we played the conditions well and we’ve come away with a great away win,” he said.

“We’ll have to wait and see how important that win will be but any win on the road is massive. To come here where they’re fighting for their lives on a pitch like today showed great character. We had enough to win the game today and we showed great character.”

The wideman is also looking forward to some home comforts when Hartlepool visit Wiltshire this weekend, starting with playing surface at The County Ground.

“We’re unbeaten on the road again, that’s three on the spin now,” he said. “We’ve got a home game now and it will be nice to get on a bit of grass first and foremost! We haven’t played on a nice pitch for a while so it will be nice to get on our pitch at home and hopefully have a good game.”
