Martin hungry for goals

28 January 2013

AS Chris Martin’s penalty against Shrewsbury hit the back of the net at the Fastplant Town End, the relief etched onto his face was plain for all to see.

While the celebration in the snow might have been cold to the touch, there is no quelling the burning desire that the on-loan Norwich man now has for adding to his goal tally during his temporary stay in Wiltshire after breaking his Town duck just under ten days ago.

The striker told the official website that despite Saturday’s clash at Tranmere falling foul of the weather, he was ready to take his new-found confidence into tomorrow’s fixture at the Matchroom Stadium.

He said: “I’ve got a bit of confidence scoring my first goal against Shrewsbury and was looking to follow that up. Obviously I’m going to have to wait until tomorrow but that’s the beauty I suppose. We had a game so quickly so we’ve prepared for this one and we’re raring to go.

“It was frustrating not having a game on Saturday. Obviously we were prepared for it, we did our work during the week and were looking forward to what I think would have been a really good game. It’s just a shame that the weather put paid to it."

With Town’s defeat to Leyton Orient earlier in the season acting as extra motivation, the front man says that Paolo Di Canio’s side will be taking the game to their London hosts.

“Orient are a decent side. Prior to a few results they’ve had recently they went on a very good unbeaten run so they’ve got quality in their side and we know they’re going to be dangerous but we’ll go there full of confidence.”
