F/T: Fairford T 3 STFC XI 1

Joe English scores for a youthful Swindon side in pre-season friendly

TOWN’S Development XI took on Fairford Town in a friendly at Cinder Lane on Tuesday evening, losing the game 3-1.

Joe English scored a consolation goal for the Robins late on in the game, but efforts from Dan Drewitt, Alex Rudd and Henry Traas sealed the win for the Gloucestershire side.

Interim Under 18’s manager Jamie Pitman offered his views after the game.

He said: “The physicality for our boys is a big thing and that does come into it, but it was a good workout.

“You find out a little bit out about the characters and certainly in terms of the physical aspect of it, where they need to get to in order to start playing men’s football.

“We ended up with a 14-year-old (Tommy Aldridge) on the pitch. We had three or four 15-year-olds on the pitch in the second half as well.

"It’s a great experience for them to see what it’s like playing men’s football.”

The Swindon side included Harry Agombar, Samsung Win A Pro winner Kayden Jackson and left-back Matty Jones, who has spent much of pre-season training with the first team squad.
