TOWN eased to a 5-0 win over Devizes Town at Nursteed Road last night.
Miles Storey opened the scoring before trialists Youssef Sofiane and William Gros added to the scoreline. Paul Caddis fired home from the spot before Connor Waldon notched the pick of the goals, flicking up the ball with his back to goal before turning and lashing it into the net on the volley.
Manager Kevin MacDonald spoke to the waiting media after the game.
On the run-out
It was a decent exercise for the lads. Obviously we were a bit too strong for them but one or two of the players needed the games and the youngsters came on and did very well.
On the youngsters involved
Most of the youngsters are training with the first team now so we need to see a bit of fitness but also a bit of football. We need to get as many of our good young players through as possible so the more experience they can get the better and what could be better than three or four to come in and play alongside Paul Caddis who is a fantastic professional.
On new arrivals
Each time they come in we have to be aware of how long they have been back in training. Alex (Pritchard) and Nathan (Byrne) haven’t been training much so they will be doing a bit more on their own but this week we’ll try and push them on a bit more. They’re all good players but they’ve got to get past people like Paul Caddis and Nathan Thompson. We’re starting to get a bit of a group together hopefully they can push on.
On Forest Green Rovers
Hopefully (we’ll put out) the fittest and strongest team we can. We’re building towards the start of the season so we’ve got to try and involve people like James Collins and Andy Williams but Alex and Nathan haven’t trained much so if they play it will be a bit part. Things have been going well for us and we’re getting the fitness so hopefully we can start to bed in a bit more of the football.
