The Tour Diaries: Darren Ward

24 July 2013

TOWN'S Darren Ward sat down with the official website this morning to discuss the tour so far...

The training camp in Portugal has been enjoyable. It’s always good to get away in pre-season, getting to know the new players and getting back into some hard training so it’s been good. The weather has been nice as well which always helps!

As one of the most senior members of the squad, it has felt a bit different compared to previous years in my career I just get on with it. I still enjoy playing football and want to continue playing for a long time so if that’s the case for a while then so be it.

Training in the heat out here is not too bad. Obviously we’ve done quite a lot of training in the hot weather so at the moment I’m coping.

The gelling process is starting to happen to be honest. We’re all working hard in training so if we keep that up then we should be fine.

With a week and a half to go before the start of the season, our focus is naturally on Peterborough who we play on the first day of the season. It’s going to be very important to us to make sure we get things as right as possible leading up to the game so that is primarily our main focus and target.
