Glad to be back

26 June 2013

FEW players will have been more delighted to get back to pre-season training than Nathan Thompson.

The defender made 29 first team appearances before being sidelined with an ankle injury in the home draw with Oldham Athletic at the end of March.

Following a summer of dedicated rehabilitation – he was able to rejoin the squad for the first day of pre-season training.

And having signed a new contract at The County Ground over the summer, the defender couldn’t be happier.

“It’s the best part of 12 weeks since I have been amongst the team and playing football, so it’s great to be back,” smiled the 22-year old.

“The turnover of players this summer has been quite high but there are a few new lads coming in and they will all want to come in and prove themselves at first team level.

“It’s great to see younger players coming through and there are quite a few of us who have come through the youth system now.

“The lads that have come from higher division clubs will find there is a competitive edge to the games, as well as playing in front of big crowds.”
