19 June 2013

TOWN boss Kevin MacDonald wants his side to hit the ground running as the Robins prepare for an away opener at Peterborough United.

The manager will welcome the Town squad back for pre-season training on Monday in the knowledge that the 2013/14 season will begin at London Road.

The fixtures were released on Wednesday morning with the Town boss offering his views on the opening to the new campaign.

He said: “It’s going to be a testing start against a side who have just come down from the Championship.

“Peterborough, like us, will want to make a good start and it’s going to be a competitive opening to the new campaign.

“There is a lot of excitement surrounding the release of the new season’s fixtures and it’s great that everyone connected with the club can now focus with the first game just that bit closer.

“The players are back in on Monday morning and although it has been relatively quiet period for the fans, things will really start to ramp up.”

MacDonald was also full of praise for the Town support during the 2012/13 campaign and is expecting another bumper turnout at London Road as the new season gets underway.

“Our supporters were fantastic last season, both home and away. I am sure they will travel up and down the country in big numbers once again to follow the team.

“We can all look forward to the season now and continue preparations for the first game at Peterborough and beyond.”
