Flashback: 1993 Play-Offs

19 May 2013

TWENTY years ago today, Swindon secured their place in the First Division Play-off final at Wembley.

After taking a 3-1 lead to Prenton Park, Town made another brilliant start and scored first. Martin Ling broke from midfield and fed John Moncur who slotted home to extend Town’s lead.

Mark Proctor then leveled matters on the night before a magnificent stop from Fraser Digby denied Tranmere a second. The Town stopper’s heroics didn’t keep the home side at bay for long: Pat Nevin prodded home to give Rovers the lead.

Dave Mitchell then found Craig Maskell who fired home at the second attempt to draw Swindon level and restore their two-goal aggregate advantage.

Kenny Irons then netted from the spot to put Tranmere within touching distance once more but Town held on, securing their place at the Twin Towers courtesy of a 5-4 aggregate win.
