'Overwhelmed by support'

16 May 2013

ANDY Rowland says that he was “overwhelmed by the support” at last week’s race night in aid of the former Town legend.

Around 250 people were present in The Legends Lounge at The County Ground along with former players such as Billy Tucker (who played with Andy at Swindon and at Bury) Roger Smart, Charlie Henry and Fitzroy Simpson.

“I was overwhelmed by the support”, he said. “The actual night went superbly well but I didn’t realise how much people appreciated my time at Swindon. It was a night to remember for the whole family to see so many old friends and faces that have been supporting Swindon for years.

“It was wonderful seeing some of the lads that I took training with and played with - that was a real bonus. I didn’t expect that sort of reaction.

“Thank you to everyone for turning out for a memorable night for me and my family.”

Adam Wainwright, Marketing and Promotions Executive at SN1 who organised the event along with Town legend Phil King, was delighted with the response.

“The night was electric and the room was so emotionally charged,” he said. “It was great to see so many people support Andy and his family. The money raised was a fantastic total and it was all very humbling to see.

“It was great to be involved and I can’t wait to see more events like this for former players in the future.”

The event raised around £7,000 in total, part of which will go towards establishing an STFC Former Players’ Fund.
