Ward: Plenty to take away

16 September 2013

SKIPPER Darren Ward took the positives from Town’s dominant display in defeat at Molineux.

Speaking to the media after the game, the defender gave a frank assessment of the result.

“It was a good crowd here and unfortunately the result went against us,” he said. “The first goal speaks for itself: it’s gone over Wes and I don’t think anyone would have saved that. The second goal he’s been allowed to cross it.

“It’s just incredible percentage-wise, if Sky were here they’d have a field day. Although it didn’t go for us there’s plenty to take away. There are still areas to improve on. We shouldn’t be conceding three goals but then again we could have scored about 20 goals.”

In front of a crowd of nearly 20,000 in the Black Country, Ward was impressed by the atmosphere on his return to his former club.

“It’s a fantastic club,” he said. “I was privileged to play here and this is a fortress. The crowd are superb and the players here are good lads.

“They had a spell at the start but you’ve got to expect it at home it’s where their support is but the lads took it in their stride and we grew in stature. We lost the first half but won the second half.”
