Cooper: outstanding 2nd half

8 February 2014

MARK Cooper spoke to the media after Town's 3-2 win at Port Vale.

On the win...
We were 2-0 down without doing much wrong. We had numerous chances but we didn't take any of them. I said at half-time 'keep going, if we get an early goal it's game on'. We were outstanding in the second half and deserved to win the game. They've got to stop being 2-0 down. It makes it harder for me and keeps giving me grey hairs.

On the second half performance...
When you have got a lot of young players, you can't jump up and down and rant and rave. We had the steel at the back and they (the defence) were outstanding. We had a solid base. Once we scored the first goal, we went from strength to strength.

On getting back into the game...
We needed an early goal. It was a great ball in then a great header (from Nile Ranger), he then goes through and should equalise. We hit the post and you think it's not going to come but we kept playing.

On Alex Pritchard's free-kick...
He's got more than that. He doesn't score them enough. It gets us back in the game then a great move and Byrney comes from left-back to get the winner.

On tactics and formations...
We had two frontmen who were a real handful and that's what you want from your frontmen. We knew conditions weren't going to be great so we knew if we had a target to hit we could play off it.

On the travelling support...
I'd like to pay credit to the supporters today. They kept us going and were outstanding.
