Barker: A chance to push on

8 January 2014

GEORGE Barker says that he is hoping to push on during his time at The County Ground.

Town’s latest signing spoke to STFC Player shortly after putting pen to paper on his 18-month deal and stated that he will give it his best shot whilst in Wiltshire.

He said: “I started out at Southampton but got released and have been at Brighton during my scholarship. It was hard getting in to the team at Brighton. I played a few games but coming here will give me a chance to push on. I’m here to give it my best shot.

“I play either in the hole or to the left and play off a bigger man,” he continued. “I like to get the ball to feet, link up play, get shots off, assist, slide balls through. I’m more of a link-up player than an out-and-out striker.”

Finally, he spoke of his previous relationship with Town’s First Team Coach, Luke Williams, as well as certain members of the squad.

“Knowing Luke (Williams) and a few of the players, I’ve been in touch with them but I was speaking to Luke on a regular basis,” he said. “I played with Rapha (Branco) and Ryan (Harley) – they’re two very good players. Yaser (Kasim) as well, he was there for a while and he’s done really well here.”
