Cooper: Pleased to get 3 points

25 January 2014

TOWN Manager Mark Cooper spoke to the media after the victory over Shrewsbury at The County Ground.

On the win...
I'm pleased to get three points. It was an atrocious game of football especially the way we tried to play. The most frustrating thing was letting them score so close to half time and that made it more difficult. In the second half we had to change it when Jay (McEveley) injured his knee and we had to change shape. We tried to gamble to win the game. It wasn't pretty but we got it done.

On the performance...
At times we played some decent stuff as did Shrewsbury to be fair. There were too many silly mistakes, too many wrong decisions but it's three points. As lucky as we were we still got three points.

On Michael Smith...
I told everyone what he was about. He was honest, worked his socks off and scored goals. I'm pleased he's got off the mark so quickly. Hopefully he can go from strength to strength. That's what I'm after. I'm after boys that want to be here and work hard for the football club.

On injuries sustained...
Ryan Mason got a kick in the muscle on his side and it went into spasm. McEveley was a doubt and had a fitness test this morning but his knee locked and he had to come off.

On Jamie Reckord...
He would have played had Jay not got through his fitness test. He's another one who was on our list that fits our credentials. He can play centre back or left back and is good with the football. I thought he did quite well when he came on.

Looking forward...
Away from home now is going to be a really big test with people questioning our integrity and desire. That's the next challenge.
