Cooper: We dug it out

11 January 2014

TOWN Manager Mark Cooper spoke to the media after victory over Peterborough.

On the performance...
Not one of our best. It was very resolute against a very good Peterborough side. They played well and pushed us back a lot. It wasn't one of our most fluent but we ground the result out and ground it out when we shouldn't have done.

On the team display...
I said to the players in the changing room, I thought the back four and 'keeper kept us in it. (Raphael) Branco was outstanding as was Darren Ward, they were all outstanding. We had to dig deep and when you're trying to get somewhere you have to fight and that's what we did today. You can always see a goal coming with our team, we've got that ability. When they scored you're thinking panic stations but fair play to the back four and 'keeper.

On tactical selections...
We thought Peterborough would be a threat at set pieces so we wanted another defender in the back four. Grant (Hall) did well. We felt Branco deserved to play after Bradford.

On the inclusion of Nile Ranger..
He scored a goal which we worked on yesterday. What he does is stop the ball coming back quicker than it would. When he plays, we're a bit tougher. Nile came to see me and wanted to apologise to the players. It was put to the players if they wanted to give him another chance and I think in football terms they want him in the team but the off-field stuff they felt let down by him and they let him know that. They decided we're a better team with him in it.
