AS part of the Football League initiative, in which professional footballers from each club are invited to become ambassadors for their Community Trust programmes, this week saw Swindon Town’s Yaser Kasim, Massimo Luongo and Darren Ward visit their chosen programmes to be unveiled as ambassadors.
On Monday, Twilight Football ambassador Yaser Kasim visited the Youth First Centre in Walcot. The youths loved his presence as he was able to offer them advice on how to become a professional football, whilst telling all about his past and his steps to a career at STFC.
Tuesday saw a further two appearances. Firstly from Massimo Luongo at Croft Sports Centre who was visiting all the students on our STFC Football and Futsal Education Programme, for which he is the ambassador. Massimo was chosen because he is a very technical player, which is an attribute suited to Futsal. He participated in a big group picture and told the students about his experience on Soccer AM recently. The students were in awe of Massimo as he talked about his days at Tottenham and STFC’s current battle to make the League 1 Play-Offs.
The second visit on a busy Tuesday featured the FITC Development Centres with Darren Ward visiting the boys and girls sessions at Stratton Community Centre. The Town skipper is a regular at the centres and school clubs and is the STFC Community Trust Ambassador for all of the projects. As well as overseeing and assisting other players in their roles as ambassadors Darren was earmarked as the Tiny Tots and Development Centres ambassador, for which he is delighted to be a part of as his two young children attend the sessions. The children were so excited to see him and loved impressing him with the skills and techniques they had learnt across the term.
A big thanks to Yaser, Massimo and Darren; the Community staff and participants are looking forward to future visits already. For more information on the Community Trust's Player Appearances please contact Dave Chapple on 01793 421303 or e-mail dave@stfc-fitc.co.uk.
