Girls CFFE England call-up

17 January 2014

THE STFC Girls Centre For Excellence scheme received another boost this week when the Under-15s' Karolayne Byrom was selected for the English Schools Girls Under-15s squad.

Karolyane competed against hundreds of girls to ensure that she will have the opportunity to represent her country in next year's international tournament. She is now preparing for a training camp in Tarragona, Spain with the England squad.

Shane Hewlett, who manages the Girls Centre For Football Excellence, was full of praise for one of Town's emerging talents: "Karolayne has really improved over the last three years and has proved that, with hard work and determination, you can achieve your goals," he said.

"Playing for the STFC Girls CFFE has enabled her to develop her game against some of the best opposition in the country and represent Swindon in international tournaments abroad. Karolayne's twin sister Kayane narrowly missed out on achieving her England dreams when she managed to get to the final selection trial only to receive the news that unfortunately she had just missed out."

This has capped a unbelievable rise in fortune for Swindon Town who are only in their third year as a Centre For Football Excellence and Trust Manager Jon Holloway believes there are many talented players within the Centre set up. He said: " We are delighted with the standard of our players and Karolayne and Kayane have set the benchmark for our girls to aspire to. In 2014, we will be taking our Under-12s, 13s and 15s to the World Youth Cup in Sweden where they will have the opportunity to play against players from around the world which will further enhance the development of their game.”

The Trust are expanding their girls programme and have available spaces for girls who would like to develop their game at the Link Centre on a Monday and at Stratton Community Centre on a Thursday.
