Rodgers Is A Red

17 July 2014

TOWN have signed midfielder Anton Rodgers on a one-year contract, subject to Football League and FA Approval.

Rodgers has linked up with the Swindon squad at their army training camp on the South Coast this week.

After spending time at Oldham Athletic in League 1 last season, he told the official website that he was delighted with the move to Wiltshire. “I know a few of the boys here and Luke (Williams) asked if I was interested and I was really keen,” he said. “I’m from down the road in Reading so it was something I was interested in doing and I’m glad it’s done now.

“I started my professional career at Brighton, before moving to Oldham. I was up close up with my family there with my dad at Liverpool. I just wanted to move closer back to home. Thankfully, Swindon were interested and it was something I could do.

He continued: “I like to get on the ball, set the play up and play through the lines of midfield, nick a goal if I can. I just want to play as much as I can.“

Finally, Rodgers revealed that he was glad to be around a number of familiar faces at SN1.

He said: “I know George Barker, Yaser (Kasim), Rapha (Branco) and Ben Gladwin; he’s a Reading boy as well and he’s one of my good friends. It makes it that bit easier but still doesn’t stop the nerves when you come in on the first day.”
