Adam's Final PCUK Diary

5 June 2014

ADAM Wainwright pens his final diary entry before embarking on the PCUK Charity Bike Ride. You can still donate via www.justgiving.com/Adam-Wainwright3

I was out on another training ride on Sunday just gone and again I opted for a taxing ride of 50 miles-plus. My previous route through the back roads to Marlborough and then Aldbourne really tested the legs, so I decided on this route again. It was actually very interesting to see how my legs would respond and if I could actually manage to complete the ascent of the hill through on and into Aldbourne, as it was this hill that had defeated me a week previous. I am glad to report (although still hard work), I made it to the top! Sunday was pretty hot so it was a good test of stamina. My Mum and Dad joined me on the ride, although from the safety of their Volkswagen Polo. It was also nice for them as a stop for coffee in Marlborough is always a treat.

It has been a very busy week at the Football Club. There has been lots of commercial activity and we have been working very hard. Hopefully we see the fruits of this labour come to bear next week. The pitch is looking great already - I cannot believe it was looking like a sandpit only a week or so ago! As I type, the sun is out and I have to go and get some last minute bits; inner tubes mainly in case of a flatty on my ride. I am now really looking forward to the ride, with money still coming in it is great to be riding for such a great cause. Thank you very much to all those that have supported me and donated, you have been great. For those that haven’t, there is still time.

I travel to London tonight (Thursday), and will be supported by my Dad, Paul, along with Kevin Hutchings and Big Jon who are Executive Members. Thank you guys as I know it is not cheap with the ferry crossing and hotel accommodation and, of course, petrol. Your support means a great deal and shows the amazing camaraderie we have built at this fantastic Football Club over the past seasons and long may this continue. Thank You!

By the way, the runners and riders list has been published and on the sheet is Steve Vickers - remember him!? I was a ballboy for that Play-Off Semi-Final first leg back in May 1993. I wonder if I should mention that memory to him? Best not - I can remember him being a fairly big fella……
