TOWN Manager Mark Cooper spoke to the media after the win over Preston at SN1.
On the result...
I thought we played particularly well. If you look at the age of the team, we had a couple of late injuries - Louis Thompson and Ryan Harley - the team we put out was full of energy and desire and carried that on from last it. It was a pleasing win.
On injured absentees...
Louis (Thompson) is in a boot. He twisted his ankle and (Ryan) Harley had a problem with his hip so they were late withdrawals. There is no chance they will be fit for midweek.
On Ben Gladwin...
Ben is consistently one of best players in training. I spoke to him at great length about the importance of doing the simple things and to play himself in. The performance today was outstanding. He does that everyday in training but the trick has been getting him to transfer that onto the big pitch but today he's shown he can live with it. To come into a League 1 environment and have to produce straight away is difficult but I was really pleased with him today.
On defensive shape...
I did a lot of work with the back three about forcing the opposition away from goal and they looked pretty solid again today. With the three centre-backs it suited us and it gave us a chance to play two up front.
On the attack pairing...
All I wanted was their defenders to come off and know they'd been in a game. They did that today. Miles Storey has got his sharpness back. He needs to play in a two and he did pretty well today. They (Storey and Smith) looked a decent partnership.
