TOWN'S Adam Wainwright provides swindontownfc.co.uk with an update on his training before his PCUK Charity Bike Ride to Amsterdam next month. You can help Adam reach his fundraising target by visiting www.justgiving.com/Adam-Wainwright3.
At the moment, I have been working on cardio: mainly running, multi terrain, with a little bit of work on the gym bike. I made the most of the sunshine this Saturday with a 5 mile run in-and-around Swindon. It was very hot and I actually saw a few Town supporters in and around Coate Water.
Yesterday, in our lunch break, Commercial Manager Keelan McNally and I decided in advance that we would take on a 6 mile run, again taking in the lovely scenery of Coate Water. Keelan was the hare and made early headway but the tortoise (me) came home first. This after Mr McNally got a little lost and ended up on the outskirts of Hodson! We both got drenched and, at one point, I thought I saw a couple of ducks having a good laugh at me but a good workout none the less.
My bike is in need of a couple of repairs and I would like to thank Janice Mitchell from Mitchell Cycles for fast-tracking me, agreeing to service my bike on Friday, before I aim to do 50-plus miles on Bank Holiday Monday. Former STFC Media Manager, Chris Tanner, has agreed to take me through my paces. Chris and I in the past have clocked up well over 500 miles for charity, with cycle rides to Brighton, Yeovil, Wycombe, Southampton and Tranmere, so he is a good sparring partner. With only a couple of weeks to go, I will look to get out at least a couple more times to get in some final conditioning.
Thank you so much to everyone who attended my Charity BBQ & Race Night on Sunday. The weather was fantastic and your support equally so.
After a count up (and deducting direct costs) we raised £1,050 for PCUK from the day/night which is above and beyond what I was hoping to raise, which is just fantastic. To get close to £1,000 is more than I could have hoped for and a massive credit to you all and your generosity. Again, a big thank you.
I have one final fundraiser for PCUK on Monday 2nd June at the Gurkha Village in Gorse Hill. It will be a Quiz Night and the evening starts at 7pm. Please email me on adam@swindontownfc.co.uk if you would like to come. Teams can consist of either six or eight. Hope to see you there.
Adam.
