Cooper: The Players Have Been Brilliant

3 May 2014

TOWN Manager Mark Cooper spoke to the media after the final game of the 2013/14 season.

On the result...
In the first half, we didn't turn up. Hopefully that will have taught them a lesson: we were five yards off all over the pitch and, at this level, competing against teams like Rotherham, you can't do it. Second half we got the required effort and desire and could easily have got something out of the game. It gives us the impetus and belief for next year. We're bitterly disappointed with the first half.

On Michael Smith...
It's important he gets another goal to his tally. I'm sure once we get a good pre-season he'll be even better.

On Connor Waldon...
We decided to give Connor a go. We know what the others can do. I thought he did well, got hold of it really well.

On the Academy players brought on from the bench...
It's vital that we are going to have to try and promote from the youth and those two have done well. It was good to get them time on the pitch.

On Jay McEveley...
He's been fantastic for me as a manager coming in. He's been a model professional. You can see today the desire to go out with a goal. I sincerely wish him all the best and I'm sure it wont be long before he gets fixed up.

On the 2013/14 campaign...
The players have been brilliant - they deserve all the credit in the world. To finish in the top half of table you have to give them immense credit. I'm proud of them and hope they come back with the bit between their teeth next year.
