CHICHESTER CIY         2

THE Town Ladies finished their South West Combination League season with a disappointing two goal to nil home defeat by Chichester City, writes Roger Reeves.

The Town kicked off and Beth Thompson soon had the Chichester keeper Hannah McNamara doing well to keep out a 25 yard lob. The Town had settled the quicker and Georgia Walters tried her luck from 25 yards forcing the keeper into action again. In their first attack Robyn Levett in the Town’s goal pushed out Emily Symonds’ shot and in the ensuing scramble Chyna Collings was well placed to scoop the ball off the goal-line.

In the 11th minute Chichester took the lead when Kally Amber made a long run to shoot low into the net. The Town rallied but were unable to break through the visitor’s defence. In the 29th minute the Town went further behind when Lucy Challen neatly headed in Hollie Wride’s cross. Play became a midfield battle with the visitors having the edge although Amy Baker opened up the Chichester defence for Michelle Rich to shoot but her shot was just wide.

The visitors started the second half strongly and Town keeper Robyn Levett did well to hold Kristy Willet’s free kick. At the other end a Michelle Rich free kick forced the visiting keeper to make a good save. Although once again play was confined to the midfield it was the Town who had the better of the exchanges. Chyna Collings’ shot was just too high and Alice Smith and Beth Thompson combined well but the final effort again was just high.

At the back Laura Margin and Sam Quinn were keeping a tight hold on the lively Chichester forwards. A Michelle Rich free kick looked destined for the top corner but Hannah McNamara pulled off a great save. Despite the Town having the better of the play they were unable to open up a tight Chichester defence.

This was the last game that the Town will play in the South West Combination League as next season the Leagues are being re-organised.
