Ladies Through In FA Women's Cup

3 November 2014

TORQUAY UNITED - 2
SWINDON TOWN - 4

Swindon Town travelled to Devon and eased their way into the next round of the Women’s FA Cup with a four goals to two victory over Torquay United.

It took the Town nine minutes to take the lead when Beth Thompson knocked in Meg Vella’s cross from close range. Almost immediately the sides were level when Laura Gough evaded three strong challenges to shoot low into the net. In the 16th minute Meg Vella beat the home keeper from just outside the area to regain the Town’s advantage. Swindon got a third in the 31st minute when Chyna Collings coolly nodded in a Sally Butterfield cross.

Torquay hit back and Laura Gough ran clear to reduce the arrears before half time.

After the break play swung from end to end but in the 77th minute Michelle Rich secured the tie for the Town when she scored direct from a corner.

A Cup win for the Town but they were certainly made to work for it.
