Cooper: A Game We Should Never Have Lost

21 October 2014

MARK Cooper spoke to the media after Town's 3-2 defeat at home to Rochdale.

On the defeat...
It's a game we should never have lost. We looked very frail defensively. Every time a ball came into our box we looked like we might concede. When you're without Nathan Thompson and you're asking midfielders to play at the back then we are going to be fragile. At 2-2 we had numerous chances to go and win it when we should go in front. We didn't defend well enough tonight.

On defending...
As fragile as we looked, the second two are both corners, both crosses into the box and free headers. No matter what level of football you play, at some point the ball will come in the box and you have to be able to head it and that's what we have to improve on.

On the changes in personnel...
It was a worry with the changes we had to make but Rochdale got everyone behind the ball and made it difficult. I felt we did enough to score enough goals to win a game of football. We changed it and put three strikers on the pitch and tried to affect the game and got back in it. Then we get caught. I thought there were some outstanding performances again but defensively, not good enough.
