FITC Player Ambassadors

24 October 2014

As part of the Football League initiative, in which Professional Footballers from each club are invited to become ambassadors for their Community Trust programmes, the last two weeks have seen Swindon Town first team club captain Nathan Thompson and fellow teammates Louis Thompson and Tyrell Belford visit their chosen programmes to be unveiled as ambassadors, whilst participating in Question and Answer sessions, the session and then having pictures with the players.

On Friday 10th October, Girls and Women’s Centre of the Excellence Football ambassadors Nathan and Louis Thompson visited the Stratton Advanced Girls session to meet the girls in attendance and see their positive attitudes on display. Both Nathan and Louis participated in a Question & Answer and then played in a team for the matches, showing some silky touches and great skill, as well as uniting the team together.

The girls loved their presence as they were able to offer them advice on how to become a professional footballer, whilst telling all about their past, background and their steps to a career from youth team players at the club to first team regulars.

Wednesday 22nd saw a further appearance, from Tyrell Belford at Stratton Community Centre who was visiting all our goalkeepers at our Swindon Town Advanced centre programme, for which he is the ambassador. Tyrell was chosen because of this specialist position that he plays and this has shown through his performances on the pitch with STFC, whilst also being a very technical player, which is an attribute suited to the modern day Goalkeeper.

He participated in a big group picture and further Question & Answer, whilst feeding back to the Goalkeepers about his experience in the specialist position. The players were in awe of Tyrell as he talked about his days at premiership giants Liverpool FC, training with big name internationals and also STFC’s recent good form. A big thanks to Nathan, Louis and Tyrell; our Community staff and participants are looking forward to your future visits for your projects already!
