The defender's new deal will see him remain at The CG until the summer of 2017 and he says that staying in Wiltshire was important to continue his development.
“We’ve made a great start to the season,” he told the assembled media on Thursday. “In the 12 years I’ve been here it’s the best football the team has played. In order for me to progress and continue the way I’m developing it’s important that I stayed here and I’m absolutely over the moon to have signed a new contract.
“The captain side of things has brought out different responsibilities from me. I feel that over the last 18 months, I’ve been able to develop my knowledge and understanding of the game. The structure we have in place has enabled me to do that and I thought it was a perfect opportunity in order to keep me developing. I’m thankful to Lee for the opportunity.”
He continued: “If we listen to the people above us, do things right and keep the standards high then the opportunities are endless.”
