29 September 2014

CHELTENHAM TOWN - 1
SWINDON TOWN - 4

SWINDON Town got back to winning ways, winning at Cheltenham Town by four goals to one in the FA Women’s Premier League Division One South West, writes Roger Reeves.

The Town quickly settled and were rewarded in the 6th minute when Meg Vella found the net with a first-class finish. The Town were playing some neat football and were putting the home defence under pressure.

The Town increased their lead in the 17th minute when Lisa Coe was on hand to knock in Meg Vella’s cross. Sam Quinn marshalled the Town’s defence well giving the Cheltenham forwards few chances.

Beth Thompson grabbed a third for the Town when she ran down the right to score from the narrowest of angles. In the 66th minute, Katie Waker reduced the arrears but the Town were still enjoying the better of the play. Beth Thompson was brought down in the box in the 80th minute and Ellie Maynard made no mistake from the penalty spot.

Four minutes from time Alice Smith was involved in an incident with Rhona Donaldson resulting in the Town defender being sent off.

The win takes the Town to within two points Forest Green Rovers who were held to a draw by Shanklin.
