Cooper: Three Points Were Key

11 April 2015

MARK Cooper spoke to the media after victory against Peterborough.

On the three points...
It's put an end to a difficult week with three points. It wasn't a classic, we weren't at our most scintillating - touches were going astray and shots were high, wide and handsome at times but I'm pleased because we showed a bit of grit when we had to and got a clean sheet which was important. Three points were key today.

On the defensive display...
I thought we defended well today. I asked them for a clean sheet and three points and that's what they gave me - along with a few more grey hairs. They were desperate to get three points to cement our place in the top six and keep the season bubbling along. You saw the influence that Sam Ricketts will have - I thought he was outstanding at the back.

On the matchwinner...
I've been saying that he's going to be a good addition to our squad. He has shown promise in the cameos he has had so far - we see him at close quarters, he's got ability and he's come off the bench and got us the three points. He's got a bit of a rollocking because he's started doing backheels - it's important that he keeps his discipline when he gets excited. He's strong, he's quick and he's a decent striker so he's a good asset.

On Anton Rodgers...
He did well. He linked the play together. It's difficult not having a reserve team so that these boys (like Anton) get games. It's difficult when they come in but Anton trains hard every day and did well today.

On the season so far...
I'm over the moon with the achievement so far. The town and supporters should be proud of them because I am. We're not finished yet.
