Cooper: We Ground It Out

MARK Cooper spoke to the media after Town’s 1-0 success at Southend.

On the result…
That’s what makes football an amazing game. We play as badly as we did today, keep a clean sheet and win 1-0. You have to take these bits of fortune. We weren’t at our best today. We turned the ball over too many times. We didn’t play with any control today which is what we have to be able to do with the players we have. Since I’ve been here we’ve not been a team that’s ground results out and we certainly did that today. We’ll take it because we deserved to win the other night. We’ve showed character to defend a 1-0 lead.

On defensive re-shuffling…
The injury rocked us. We fought with a couple of systems and permutations. I thought he (Rapha Branco) was great. He defended well and looked after their wide players.

On the injury to Nathan Thompson…
We think it’s a groin strain. He’s not going to be fit for the next couple of weeks, I would think.

On matchwinner, Fabien Robert…
He’s a good player. His goals are pretty similar, he gets in behind defenders and a really good finish.
