17 August 2015

SWINDON TOWN - 5
SOUTHAMPTON SAINTS - 1

Swindon Town eased their way into the new season with a five goals to one victory over Southampton Saints in their opening FA Women’s Premier League Division One South West fixture at Barrington Park, Shrivenham, writes Roger Reeves.

With new the season just eight minutes old, Ellie Maynard gave the Town the lead. Five minutes later, Meg Vella added a second when she latched onto a loose clearance to drive the ball low into the net.

Alex Hurst then cut in from the left to get her name on the scoresheet before adding her second of the afternoon within nine minutes of the start of the second half.

The Town were enjoying more of the play but Hannah Haughton in the Saints’ goal prevented the Town from increasing their lead. In the 75th minute, she was helpless in preventing Abby Picton from taking the Town’s tally to five.

Deep into added time Becki Bath broke free to score a consolation goal for the Saints.
