Ling: A Chance To Rest The Players

5 December 2015

MARTIN Ling admits that while it is frustrating that Town are not in action this weekend, the break will give his players the opportunity to rest before the busy festive period.

Speaking to the official website, the Swindon boss added that he was pleased to have secured the services of on-loan midfielders, Ben Gladwin and Louis Thompson until the new year.

"We are (frustrated) if I'm honest," he said. "We've had back-to-back wins, everyone is buzzing in training and things are going really well. When things are going well you want games coming at you thick and fast.

"We had those three games in a week but the good thing off the back of that is that we’ve had the chance to rest the players. We had Sunday and Monday off, trained Tuesday, had Wednesday off then trained Thursday and Friday and put plenty of work into them. The timing isn’t perfect but the be-all-and-end-all is that we’ve got back-to-back wins and we’ll take that into Rochdale. We’ll start thinking about that come Monday morning.

"You look from the 12th until about the 2nd (January) you've got games coming very quickly. They (the players) are going to be rested but the games will come at us quickly over that period and we want to take positive results into that but the first thing we’ve got to think about is Rochdale.

"The one good thing is it gives Yaser (Kasim) a bit more time to have a chance to be fit for next Saturday. He hasn’t trained yet and I don’t think he would have played this weekend if we'd had a game."

He continued: "It's great news for us that Louis (Thompson) and Ben (Gladwin) are both here until after Christmas then the window is back open so you can have a re-think on it. To have Ben and Louis tied down until then is good. They’re two big players for us at this moment in time."
