Ling: Their Strengths Beat Our Strengths

26 December 2015

MARTIN Ling spoke to the media after Town's 3-1 defeat at the hands of Gillingham.

On the defeat...
I thought it was a very even game, first half. We matched them and were unlucky to come in 2-1 down. I've spoken an awful lot about playing well and getting results but, second half, we didn’t turn up, to be fair. They (Gillingham) are big, strong and solid. They play to their strengths and today, their strengths beat our strengths. If you’re in front and you start to play, you relax and we never had the opportunity to do that and that can take some confidence. It's been a good run, it's come to an end and you can see why they (Gillingham) are doing so well in the league. They’ve got a good unit, they're well-drilled and they've got some decent players. In the second half we never really asked any questions of them and that’s disappointing. We certainly lost control and that competitive edge in second half.

On the goals...
It was a great move from us and a great finish from Jon (Obika). Then it's the old story of being most vulnerable when you've just scored a goal then they're back level which is disappointing. Dack took it well but we dropped too deep when you have to be on your mettle and that cost us because we didn’t enjoy that lead for anywhere near long enough.

On the sending off and re-shuffling personnel ahead of Burton on Monday...
It was a fair decision (the sending off). The second one is a definite yellow so we've got no arguments we’ll have to adjust accordingly. They (Burton) have the advantage of not playing today but we’ll start to work on Monday already and we’ll be looking to be competitive on Monday at Burton.
