Ling: They Were Fresher Than Us

MARTIN Ling spoke to the media after Town’s 1-0 defeat at Burton Albion.

On the defeat…
The performance was good in the first half. They were a bit fresher than us but we had chances and didn’t put one away then got done with the sucker punch. Performance-wise I’m happy. Their ‘keeper wins man of the match - that probably tells you where we are at the moment. You got to put some of it down to the fact that we played on Boxing Day and they haven’t so there’s going to be more in their legs. It was a difficult ask coming here at the best of times but to come here off the back of playing and them not playing makes it a real big task. We were in the game all the way through.

On the penalty…
I’ve not seen it back yet. I’m a long way from it so can’t give a judgement. Jordan (Turnbull) didn’t say it wasn’t (a penalty) but I haven’t seen it back yet.

On progress…
I see Swindon Town as better than where we are in the league but not quite ready to be up there with the top boys. We’re competitive now. Against Gillingham and today we were more than capable. We know where we are – we’ve steadied the ship but we need to kick on again.
