Ling: We Had To Dig In

19 December 2015

TOWN Manager, Martin Ling spoke to the media after the 1-0 win over Shrewsbury.

On the performance…
The first half I thought was really good - as good as we’ve played. In the second half we went off the boil and they came out with a tempo but we had to dig in and had to be solid and I think we were. The first half was an excellent performance. We could have had more than one but it’s getting a bit more like it - 45 minutes today and another positive win to give us four on the bounce which is very pleasing.

On defensive resilience…
The resolution is there now. We can dig it out and get a result and get players doing the defensive side of it along with that. The passing will come – in the first half it was there and I thought we had some good play but we’re not the finished article yet. I can’t keep moaning if we’re winning games of football can I? There’s two sides of football: one with the ball and one without the ball. The pressing and hard work was there - the lads have seen it through and got a great result. Four wins on the trot and five out of six is getting us to start looking upwards. We need to build on that.

On the goal…
Great bit of technique from Anton (Rodgers). He was left out after Chesterfield and was excellent today to be fair. It was a great volley across the box with pace and Nicky Ajose did what he does best and slid it home from close range.
