SWINDON TOWN LADIES - 3
SOUTHAMPTON SAINTS - 1

Swindon Town secured their place at the top of the FA Women’s Premier League Division One South West with a three goals to one home against Southampton Saints, writes Roger Reeves.

The Town started the stronger but had to wait until the 39th minute before Sarah Uzzell scored with a low drive. Saints enjoyed a good period in the second half but fell further behind when Lisa Coe found Beth Thompson wide on the Town’s right and her cross was knocked in by Alice Smith from close range.

In the 75th minute Sally Buttterfield came on as a substitute and immediately picked the ball up on the halfway line before running half the length of the field to lob the ball over the advancing 'keeper. Saints pulled a goal back in the 86th minute when Roxanne Lee-Stewart hooked the ball in following a goalmouth scramble.

In the dying minutes only a fine diving save by Town 'keeper Robyn Levett prevented Emma Whitlock from reducing the arrears further.

The win puts the Town six points clear at the top of the league.
