Cooper: Proud of the Players

17 March 2015

MARK Cooper spoke to the media after the last-gasp victory at Doncaster.

On the win..
We're under pressure because we have to keep winning and for such a young group to have gone on the run they did of losing games and taking criticism to bounce back with three wins shows tremendous character and I'm proud of them. This is a difficult place to come. The way we did it as well with the last minute winner. It's been a pleasing evening but three points is key.

On the performance...
We’ve showed a determined effort not to get beat. At times we’re trying to gamble to get the winner and getting caught at the back. You can tell by the celebrations that it means so much to them they showed true spirit tonight. We got that response at half time - we got the goal then decided to gamble to try and get the winner. I didn't feel we deserved to be 1-0 down at half time.

On the goalscorers...
He was unbelievable tonight (Michael Smith). As a number nine, until the last ten minutes, he controlled every ball. It was a brilliant centre-forward's display - I asked him for a performance and he certainly gave me that tonight. Jon’s got a hammer in his left foot. It's pleasing for him he's been out of the team and has been the ultimate professional.
