Ling: Delighted To Be Back

3 November 2015

NEW Town manager, Martin Ling admits that he is delighted to be back at a club that he knows well.

As a midfielder, Ling was part of Glenn Hoddle’s team that won promotion to the Premier League in 1993 and spent one season in the top flight in 1993/94. He departed the County Ground after the 1995/96 Division Two championship-winning season having made 190 appearances for the club.

Speaking to STFC Player shortly before meeting the rest of the press pack, Ling says that he can’t wait to get stuck into management again after a break of two-and-a-half years.

“I’m really delighted to be back,” he said. “It’s a bit surreal - I came here in 1986 under Lou Macari then came back in 1991 and to come back today as manager is a real proud moment and a moment that I’m cherishing. Like I say, it’s a little bit surreal but it’s really pleasing to back at a place I know so well.

“I’ve been away (from management) for two-and-a-half years and it’s been frustrating in certain aspects. I’m pleased to be back and I can’t wait to get started, get out there, meet the lads and start managing the football club. It’s something I did for ten years, 450 games and it’s been a while. I’m really excited to get out there and start moving that club up the first division (League 1) table.”
