Martin Ling Named Town Manager

3 November 2015

SWINDON Town are delighted to announce the appointment of Martin Ling as the club’s new first team manager.

A former player at the County Ground, Ling has put pen to paper on a two-and-a-half-year deal at SN1.

Lou Macari initially signed the midfielder in the summer of 1986 but he made just two league appearances during the Scot’s tenure before he was sold to Southend United. Ossie Ardiles brought him back to Wiltshire in 1991. Under Glenn Hoddle, Ling became a key part of the side that would clinch promotion to the Premier League in 1993. He would also serve two more managers at the County Ground, leaving at the end of the 1995/96 season following Town’s Second Division Championship-winning campaign.

As a manager, Ling cut his teeth with Leyton Orient, steering the O’s to promotion from League Two in 2006. After six years at the helm at Brisbane Road he spent time in charge of Cambridge United before guiding Torquay United to the League Two Play-Off Semi-Final in 2012.
