LW: A big step forward in performance

20 April 2016

HEAD Coach, Luke Williams spoke to the media after Town’s 1-1 draw at Walsall.

On the performance…
I thought the performance was very good. I expect us to be good with the football but I think today what was pleasing was the way we were able to press a very comfortable team. There were moments where we were together and had to weather storms at times.

On the strength of the matchday squad…
It was a case of us having the most powerful experienced athletes we’ve got to choose from – we’ve not had those in recent weeks. They’re a group of players in good physical fitness, the majority are match fit and are ready to work hard for each other.

On the draw…
When you go in front you’ve won it, it’s a case of proving you can stay in front so in the end I felt we warranted all three points but I’ve got to say that I do respect this team a lot and enjoyed watching them almost as much as I enjoyed watching us.

On Chesterfield at the weekend…
That would be tremendous to know mathematically the debate is over (if we beat Chesterfield) but I also feel the key objective is to increase the performance. Bury was something I would have expected: a bit of a performance lacking in some areas. Today was a big step forward in performance against a very strong side.
