Williams: We have to learn lessons

2 April 2016

LUKE Williams spoke to the media after Town's 1-1 draw with Fleetwood at SN1.

On stopping the rot...
It’s a huge relief because every season there are teams that suffer with this type of feeling - they feel like they can't compete and get a point anywhere so it's great to put a stop to that and get a point.

On the display...
I need about three weeks to get my head around this one. The most likely reason why we saw this type of game is that we have hurt ourselves. We’ve left a scar with the two performances that preceded this game and today you see a team that were edgy, lacking confidence and full of fear and it’s a lesson that confidence takes a long time to build but a moment to lose.

On Ty Belford...
I was so pleased. It's very unfair that he’s been judged very harshly when a team in front of him didn’t protect him properly in the Scunthorpe game. To see him bounce back and make some saves - I’m very impressed with him.

On learning lessons...
The lesson to learn for the players and for myself is that we must never surrender and lose intensity. We must compete and be focused and prepared well for every game. That way you can protext yourself. It's still fragile but hopefully this goes some way to restoring confidence. We have to learn the lessons that you have to play every single moment of every single game. Oldham will be desperate for all three points and will compete for every ball and we have to do the same.
