Williams: We Continued To Be Positive

16 January 2016

LUKE Williams spoke to the assembled media after Town's 4-3 victory over Crewe Alexandra.

On the three points...
I think we saw in the last game, it's not what we want or plan for (going behind) but you can see passion, commitment and an aggressive style of play. Of course we need to make some improvements but overall, very pleased. We started the game in a very aggressive, positive manner. The goals were a few individual errors which every player in the world will make and they cost us. We continue with the same aggressive stance on the game, continued to be positive to create lots of chances to score and in the end, it was just enough.

On Jon Obika and Nicky Ajose...
I wouldn’t want to play against them. Between them they’ve got everything and the team are delivering the ball to those boys time and time again. They're a difficult pair to play against.

On the tactical set-up...
We were fortunate enough to have Martin (Ling) and his experience. He changed the shape of the team and we’ve continued with that and it's bringing us goals and it's making us a team that can always be a threat.

On defensive errors...
If I was watching and thinking "it's coming" then I would be concerned. We looked in control then we made some individual mistakes. We're not planning to give away these goals. These players are tremendously brave. They will make mistakes at times and we have to support them through it. These boys are hurt when they make mistakes but what you see is they don’t crumble, they don’t go hiding and they don’t make excuses.

On his role on the touchline...
I try to remain calm and remain analytical so try to remove as much emotiuon as I can. It's not easy with those kinds of games. I expect fans to be emotional and express themselves. That’s why we do it as a job and other people come here to watch it as a spectacle.

On Nathan Thompson's return to action...
It was a fanstic moment to see. Brad Barry was exceptional - another fantastic performance. To see him play so well then arguably the most important person at the club (came on). Rapha (Branco) immediately recognised that and gave him the armband. It’s a great situation for the club to have two really good right-sided fullbacks.
