LW: A lot for us to take away

19 July 2016

LUKE Williams spoke to the media after Town's 2-1 defeat to Reading.

On the defeat...
We’ve learnt how important certain players are and we’ve seen some more of the qualities of the new players that have only just joined us. There is a lot to consider and a lot for us to take away. We’re very disappointed to see a lack of concentration that led to a catalogue of mistakes and, to concede two goals very easy in the end was quite distressing after a long period without really feeling under threat. There was plenty of possession in the Reading side without causing us too many problems. We’re trying to give everyone plenty of opportunities to get on the pitch and as we draw closer to Coventry (on the opening day of the season) we’ll see the strongest team on the pitch for longer so we can start to get those boys ready for 90 minutes of football.

On John Goddard...
I thought he was excellent. I think he's talented enough and intelligent enough to play in midfield. For me, from what I've seen, it's making good sense to play him just behind the striker. He would benefit a bit from playing with a more physical striker in front of him. I thought Jermaine (Hylton) and Jordan (Stewart) equipped themselves well.

On the absences of Jon Obika and Tom Smith from the matchday squad...
There's nothing serious with either player. They’ve shown signs of fatigue and we need to be careful that while we're pushing them extremely hard, we don’t push them so hard they break down. The boys are still working extremely hard to increase their fitness levels.
