Town in Ireland: Obika enjoying pre-season

14 July 2016

JON Obika says that he is enjoying pre-season after netting twice in as many friendlies for the Town, including the winner against Shelbourne on Tuesday evening.

Speaking to swindontownfc.co.uk at Swindon's training base in Ireland, the striker also revealed that there is a positive mood around the squad.

“It was good to get on the scoresheet,” he said, reflecting on Town's win at Tolka Park. “For strikers you want to get in your rhythm as soon as possible so I’m enjoying it. They (Shelbourne) were more organised, they had eleven men behind the ball and it was tough to break them down but I think it was a good outfit for a League One side to face.

“They (the squad) are looking forward to it (pre-season training and friendlies). They’re happy we’re getting the minutes we need. Also, the games are going well and I feel we just want the season to start.”

He added: “It’s definitely positive that’s the main thing about pre-season -  to get the rust out as early as possible and kick on from there.”
