Williams: Wigan Our Benchmark

25 March 2016

TOWN’S Head Coach, Luke Williams spoke to the media after the 4-1 defeat to Wigan.

On the opposition…
I think it’s a Championship side playing in League 1. It was a lesson (for us). That’s where we’d like to get to – they’re that good. It’s a benchmark for us. The second goal is a fantastic strike and I don’t think we recovered. Mentally, maybe the players felt that was too much to come back from and that proved to be the case. A huge amount of credit to them, they managed to do everything today. Physically, they’re too difficult for us to deal with and they move the ball very quickly. I was pleased to see the players not hiding and still trying to get on the ball and trying to create something.

On the red card…
It’s a fair decision, I think. Nathan is very competitive and was probably frustrated. He made a judgement error and it’s cost him.

On moving forward…
That’s the only thing you can do after a heavy defeat; you need to try and get over it as quickly as possible and move on. We’re fortunate the next game is so close that we can get back on.
