FA CUP: Pre-Eastleigh Injury Update

3 November 2016

Town Head Coach Luke Williams gave an injury update to the local media earlier today ahead of Friday’s Emirates FA Cup First Round tie away at Eastleigh…

ON MICHAEL DOUGHTY:

“Michael Doughty played 45 minutes (against Scunthorpe) and he did 40 of those minutes in the high intensity zone, which is incredible now that we’re able to monitor players’ heart rates during the game.

“We know that he’s not fully fit but I think it is probably fair to say that a half-fit Michael Doughty is something awesome in itself.

“With another week under his belt he’s getting closer to being fully match fit, but Michael is very much a man that can apply his mind to control his body and he demonstrated that very well coming on at half-time and making a real impact.”

ON LLOYD JONES:

“I took a risk with both Lloyd and Michael Doughty putting them into the action so early against Scunthorpe, but both have come through extremely well so I don’t see any problem with Lloyd going forward.”

ON JORDAN STEWART AND JORDAN YOUNG:

“They are both getting closer to match fitness. There is still work that they need to do to make sure they avoid a repeat injury, but both boys are coming closer and closer to match fitness."

ON BRANDON ORMONDE-OTTEWILL AND TOM SMITH:

“Both are ready to go. I’m sure they are a little bit less than 100% having been away from the action for some time, but in terms of their heart rate and what they are able to produce in training, they are close enough to be ready.”

ON JON OBIKA:

“That’s pretty much the only player that is fully sidelined at the moment. There are just a few that need to get back up to full tilt.”

ON JAMES BROPHY:

“James is having test after test at the moment but we’re pretty sure we know the cause of the tightness in the chest and the difficulty in breathing, but we have to rule out everything.

“He’s continuing to be monitored and we need to eliminate anything that could be potentially very, very serious, but we don’t think it is.

Darnell Furlong is suspended for Friday’s Emirates FA Cup First Round tie away at Eastleigh.
