Obika Pleased With Town's Fight And Desire Against Southend

23 November 2016

Jon Obika was back on the scoresheet during Town's 1-1 draw away at Southend United on Tuesday night and is now looking to help the Reds kick-on in the Sky Bet League One.

Obika was thrilled to have played his part in helping the Robins get back on track and he was thrilled to have marked his return with his third goal of the season.

“It was a positive night. I thought the boys did really well, we stuck together and sometimes when we go a goal down we can get down, but I thought we rose to the occasion and we defended strongly at the end,” he told swindontownfc.co.uk.

“It was a big feeling to see the ball hit the back of the net and it was something I wanted in the game against Rochdale, but I’m glad to get off the mark again and long may it continue.

“We earned a point on Tuesday.

“People may question our character but you could see on Tuesday that the boys are together and I feel like we are going to get more wins and more points on the board.”

Obika now wants to build on the draw in midweek but knows high-flying Bradford City will pose a tough test.

“The key is to keep this momentum going now and we want to go for the three points on Saturday” he continued.

“The Southend game was good preparation for Saturday because they played long into the target men so we are prepared for Bradford.

“We know we have to dig deep and be strong in the final-third.

“Bradford are on a run so we have to stop that and get a win. I would love to score a couple of goals against them as I did a couple of years ago and I’ll be gunning for that on Saturday!"
