TEAM NEWS: The Latest On The Injury Front Ahead Of Rochdale

17 November 2016

Town Head Coach Luke Williams has given a number of fitness updates ahead of his side’s trip to Rochdale on Saturday…

ON JON OBIKA:

“Jon is really getting there now – he’s getting really close.

“We expect him to be involved in some way.

“No doubt he’s first choice in my opinion from the start of the season. I think a lot of Luke Norris and I think a lot of Nathan Delfouneso for sure, but they started here not match fit and of course you are trying to get match fit whilst out there and all of a sudden the confidence can take a knock.

“A lot of the reasons why they’ve not found the back of the net has been because of a fitness issue and mentally not being on the pitch week in and week out for a long time or physically not being quite at it.

“A knock on effect of that is your confidence starts to take a dip when you are not scoring and you read the press and you hear the people in the streets, so Jon coming back in fresh means he hasn’t had the type of pressure the other boys have had.

“I expect him to come in, be enthusiastic, have energy and help us to get the much-needed goals.”

ON YASER KASIM:

“He’s got a scan booked in for later and we’ll know more when we’ve had the scan results back, but we’re hoping that we can nurse him through to be available.”

ON JAMES BROPHY:

“We cannot of course take a risk with this type of problem. Losing matches is terrible enough but losing people isn’t even worth considering, so we need to make sure that we’re absolutely sure there is nothing in there that is going to be of concern before we push him into playing again.”
