Furlong On Cloud Nine Following Emphatic Dale Win

19 October 2016

Darnell Furlong was thrilled with Town’s superb 3-0 victory over Rochdale on Tuesday night and was happy to have got on the scoresheet.

The defender opened the scoring for the hosts at SN1, latching on to Sean Murray’s sublime back-heel before hammering home a beautiful effort into the bottom corner.

Further efforts from Nathan Delfouneso and Nathan Thompson wrapped up a vital three points and inflicted a rare defeat on Dale, who were on a seven-game winning streak prior to last night.

“The changing room is a joke and it is so nice to get a win like that, especially after the result we picked up on Saturday,” Furlong told swindontownfc.co.uk.

“It is a really nice feeling.

“I heard that Rochdale had the best form in England and second to them was Arsenal, so it would have been a result to get a draw out of the game but to go and beat them 3-0 like that was perfect.

“It was a perfect performance from us in every way.

“It was nice to score another goal. Being in a back-four is a bit different to being in a five, I still think we are solid in a five but the four just makes us more compact and it proves that we can play another way.

“We could go back to the five at the weekend and I’m sure we could get the points - it is not just about the formation change but it just adds another string to the bow.

“We’re just gearing towards Saturday now with recovery and then we’ll be straight back on it.”

Furlong was also delighted to have notched his second goal for Town, and reserved praise for his fellow goalscorers and in-form stopper, Lawrence Vigouroux.

“I’ve had chances in a lot of games and I could have scored a lot more to be fair, but I’m just happy to have scored another one and just hopefully it continues," he added.

“I thought Nathan Delfouneso and Nathan Thompson deserved their goals because their performances were excellent, so for both of them to get goals as well was really nice.

“When the penalty goes against us we’re gutted but I’ve got every faith in Lawrence (Vigouroux). Sometimes when a penalty is awarded you think you could be in trouble but I don’t get that feeling with Lawrence.

“He’s gone the right way on most of them this season as well and I think there’s only one that he hasn’t gone the right way for.”
